<p>Having been with LHi for over ten years, <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/julia-pylypenko-1ab988b6/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Julia Pylypenko</a>, Group Finance Manager, recently decided to use her Gift of Time. We caught up with her to hear all about her experience, from how she made the most of her time to the reflections and insights she gained along the way:</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h5><strong>Did you choose the Rolex or the one-month sabbatical, and what made that the right choice for you?</strong></h5>
<p class="MsoNormal">I chose the sabbatical. Time felt like the more meaningful gift - a chance to step away and invest in myself in a way no material thing could match.&nbsp;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">&nbsp;</p>
<h5><strong>Where did you spend your Gift of Time, and what drew you to that destination?</strong></h5>
<p class="MsoNormal">I spent it in Bali, completing two trainings: (1) Yoga and (2) Breathwork &amp; Somatics.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><br>Somatics, in simple terms, is about connecting the mind and body,&nbsp; learning to listen to how your body stores tension, emotion, and resilience, and how awareness and breath can help release that.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I wanted to do something that challenged me and taught me something new. Bali felt right - it&rsquo;s known for being a place where people go to grow, not just travel.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">&nbsp;</p>
<h5><strong>What did you get up to during your trip?</strong></h5>
<p class="MsoNormal">A bit of everything 😊. I studied hard, dove deep into anatomy, philosophy, and nervous system work, spent time with elephants and monkeys, and even squeezed in a few beach days. It was the perfect mix of learning, challenge, and fun.&nbsp;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">&nbsp;</p>
<h5><strong>How did it feel to step away from work completely for a whole month?</strong></h5>
<p class="MsoNormal">They say it takes 21 days to build a habit - well, we were training 12-hour days, six days a week, from 7am to 7pm. So imagine how many habits I built (and broke!) in 30 days.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><br>It was a full-on human experience: physically intense through long yoga practices, mentally demanding through study, and emotionally raw at times. There were breakthroughs and moments when many wanted to quit. But that&rsquo;s what made it meaningful. We supported each other through it all; strangers who became almost like family.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><br>Now, ask me if I felt lazy coming back to work after a &ldquo;month off&rdquo;&hellip; 😅 not exactly.</p>

<h5><strong>Looking back, how would you sum up what the 'Gift of Time' means to you now?</strong></h5>
<p class="MsoNormal">It&rsquo;s still settling in, but for me, the Gift of Time meant doing something 360&deg; different - to step out of routine, learn something new, and challenge myself in a completely different environment.</p>

<h5><strong>If you could relive one day of your Bali sabbatical, which would it be and why?</strong></h5>
<p class="MsoNormal">Not one I&rsquo;d relive, but one I&rsquo;ll never forget, our graduation ceremony. On the first day of training, we were each given a single flower. On the last day, we had to destroy it 🌸.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><br>It sounds harsh, but the message landed deep, even the most beautiful things must eventually be released to make space for what&rsquo;s next. It was raw, beautiful, and freeing all at once.</p>

<h5><strong>Did the break give you any new perspectives or lessons that you&rsquo;ve carried into your everyday life or work?</strong></h5>
<p class="MsoNormal">One of the reminders for me was that growth doesn&rsquo;t happen in one corner of life, it overlaps. What I learned through movement and awareness shows up in how I handle challenges, decisions, and everyday interactions. Everything feeds everything.</p>

<h5><strong>What advice would you give to others who are deciding how to spend their own Gift of Time in the future?</strong></h5>
<p class="MsoNormal">Be intentional. For me, it meant choosing something that stretched me, physically, mentally, and emotionally. But it doesn&rsquo;t have to look the same for everyone. Whether it&rsquo;s rest, adventure, or learning something totally new - do something that brings you joy.</p>

<h5 style="margin-left: 0cm; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1;"><strong><span style="mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman';">Anything else you took away from it all?</span></strong></h5>
<p style="margin-left: 0cm; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1;">It was more than a trip, it was an expedition into self-discovery, learning, and perspective. I came back with sore muscles, a curious mind, a full heart, and somehow even more questions than before.</p>
<p style="margin-left: 0cm; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1;"><br>I&rsquo;m grateful to work somewhere that gives people space to grow, in work and in life. It&rsquo;s something I really value.</p>

<p>Every year, our global offices select a charity of their choice to support through fundraising and awareness initiatives. This year, our Austin office reached their charity target by partnering with Austin <a href="https://www.sunshinecamps.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Austin Sunshine Camps</a> to make a positive impact in their community. We caught up with our Austin charity chair, <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/vanessa-palazzi-600b87196/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Vanessa Palazzi</a> to hear more about what they&rsquo;ve been up to.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h4 class="MsoNormal"><strong>Tell us a bit about the charity your office chose to support, why does it mean something to you?</strong></h4>
<p class="MsoNormal">Supporting ASC is deeply meaningful to our office because it allows us to give back directly to the Austin community. We wanted to partner with a cause where we could not only contribute but also show up in person to provide support. Having the opportunity to help children who are facing challenges such as financial hardships, disabilities, and more is incredibly important to us.</p>

<h4 class="MsoNormal"><strong>What was your fundraising goal, and how did you come up with that number?</strong></h4>
<p class="MsoNormal">Our 2025 yearly goal was $2,500. We chose this number based on last year&rsquo;s efforts, we felt very confident we could push the envelope and surpass our goal.</p>

<h4 class="MsoNormal"><strong>Why did you pick this charity for 2025? What drew you to it?</strong></h4>

<li>Direct Community Impact: ASC serves children in the Austin area, giving the office a tangible way to give back to their local community.</li>
<li>Hands-On Involvement: ASC provides opportunities for volunteers to engage onsite, making the impact more personal and meaningful.</li>

<h4 class="MsoNormal"><strong>What&rsquo;s been your favourite moment or the most rewarding part of working on this charity project?</strong></h4>
<p class="MsoNormal">Our favorite moment has to be going onsite to organize the camp facility before camp season!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp; </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp;</span></p>
<h4 class="MsoNormal"><strong>How did your team hit the target and make an impact in the community?</strong></h4>
<p class="MsoNormal">We had multiple fun events that helped us raise money!&nbsp;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Our main ones were: Patrick&rsquo;s day Scavenger hunt, our annual Kentucky Derby Nigh and a trivia night at a local bar</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">But we also had mini events such a pie a manager, pay day raffles, egg-a-mate, smell the sugar!</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">All the money raised will be able to directly support the children at ASC!</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp;</span></p>
<h4 class="MsoNormal"><strong>Did your team come up with any cool or creative fundraising ideas that you&rsquo;d suggest to others?</strong></h4>
<p class="MsoNormal">Our St. Patrick&rsquo;s day scavenger hunt was a hit! We ran a theme sales week which followed by a scavenger hunt around downtown Austin. The team were split in teams of 4, and it consistent of doing silly challenges across down whilst looking for the secret location where the pot of gold (Ciara &amp; I) were hiding.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">One of our small but successful activities was the &lsquo;Pie Face Auction.&rsquo; Three brave volunteers had their faces pied for the highest bidder, making it a fun and memorable hit! We raised $140 in just couple of minutes. Botty was the highest bidder and Jack unfortunately paid the price!<br style="mso-special-character: line-break;"><br style="mso-special-character: line-break;"></p>

<p>Originating from a 2018 leadership summit, the "Younger You" philosophy has guided LHi towards a 'people-first' approach, prioritising the hiring, development, and retention of 'good humans'.</p>
<p>Our leaders abide by a simple mantra: <strong>"The journey for those coming after us must be better, happier, and smoother."</strong></p>
<p>This philosophy is symbolised by our 'Younger You' white Converse trainers where each LHi&rsquo;er receives a pair when they reach a certain management level, stamped with the year they began their career&mdash;a tangible reminder to walk in the shoes of our 'Younger You'.</p>

But with our EOT journey we are currently on, hopefully this will help every LHi’er break through that financial barrier.&nbsp;</p><p>So, as a group, we’re all working towards making LHi being the best business it can be, a people first business, where LHi may not be the final destination for everyone but a stop along the way that helped our ‘good humans’ achieve their dreams.</p>
